We have been using the book ‘Maps’ within our writing and reading this week. The children have loved looking at all of the different maps within the book, learning lots of new information about each one. We are excited to use the book to write a travel brochure about Italy later in the week.
Wonder
We have recently started reading Wonder by R. J. Palacio as our class novel. The children are really engaged in the story and it has given us an opportunity to discuss who we are and how people view each other. We are excited to hear more about Auggie’s experiences as he starts a new school.
Science – friction investigation
Year 5 designed an investigation to determine which shoes had the best grip. The children did their planning in groups and then we made the most of the spring sunshine by completing our experiment outside.
Possibility or certainty?
In our grammar lesson this week, the children looked at how modal verbs can change the possibility of something happening. Using images from the Land of Neverbelieve as inspiration, they wrote sentences which included a modal verb and then changed these verbs to increase the chance of something happening.
The Land of Neverbelieve
The children have enjoyed exploring our new book ‘The Land of Neverbelieve’. The book explains all of the features of a land overflowing with fantastical plants and creatures. This week, they have studied different areas of the land and summarised their findings to inform the rest of the class.
